Why You Need Search Engine and Social Media Optimization Strategies in Your Digital Marketing Plan?

Overview

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is still a key strategy to strengthen online visibility and improve reputation with major search engines (Google, Yahoo, & MSN). But, getting results with SEO strategies alone could be a drawn out process. Because of this, most businesses are adopting SEO in conjunction with one or more Social Media strategies, to improve online visibility in less time. Be sure to consult a professional or do your research, to evaluate whether these strategies are relevant for your business and then put a plan in place to execute these strategies.

History

Few years ago, social media was popular among individuals to interact with family and friends, and stay in touch. It was not the norm for businesses to have fan pages and build their network online. So, businesses allocated their marketing dollars towards paid-search marketing, such as Google Adwords and search engine optimization (SEO) to improve rankings in organic search. As we are aware of the fact that Search Engine Optimization is a long term strategy, for some businesses it took lot longer than others, to achieve rankings in search engines, even after aggressive link building and content marketing strategies. This is not the case anymore, since businesses now have the option of adopting social media strategies in their marketing plan, based on the proven results in the industry relevant to their business.

Current Trends

Now, businesses can allocate resources between Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Media Optimization(SMO)/Social Media Marketing, and achieve results in less time. By engaging in optimization, it is now easier to adopt marketing Strategies as well.

If you are the hands-off type of business and don't have resources to manage profiles and engage in conversation with fans, SMO is the best option for you. Once you have SMO plan in place and you have resources to manage the profiles on a regular basis and to respond to fan base in a timely manner, you can engage in Marketing activities.

Tips on Optimizing Social Media

If you are the hands-off type of business and don't have resources to manage profiles and engage in conversation with fans, SMO is the best option for you. Optimization takes work, initially. Once you have done it a few times, it becomes a habit. However, if you want to be really consistent with your tasks and be effective, you need to set Campaign Guidelines, to follow:

Optimize your social media profiles, with keywords in about content and ALT-tag for images in image gallery. Some of the popular platforms are LinkedIn, Face book, Twitter, YouTube & Blog.

Design a blue print/schedule for social media activities that need to be performed on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. This is the schedule that needs to be followed by resource Responsible for executing Social Media Plan. If you are going to use in-house resource, be sure to train them for doing the job effectively. You also have the choice of outsourcing the effort.

Syndicate content. Content can be in the form of Text, Video or Images. For example, if you are writing two blog posts a month, when you publish the blog posts, syndicate these posts to multiple platforms & bookmarking sites. There are tools/plug-ins available to automate this process. If you have scheduled one video per month, optimize the video with tags and SEO friendly descriptions in YouTube & syndicate the same video to multiple video parking sites. Content syndication generates many quality links, & contributes to SMO.

Be sure to measure the results of all the activities

Tips on Social Media Marketing

Once you have SMO plan in place and you have resources to manage the profiles on a regular basis and to respond to fan base in a timely manner, you can engage in Social Media Marketing activities.

Before starting your marketing campaign in one or more social media platforms for your business, find out where your target market is active.

Have a social media policy in place for employees who are allowed to participate in online conversation about your brand. This is critical to set a standard for responding to fans & to avoid any negative publicity. If you do get into such situation, be proactive to handle in a timely manner to avoid major damage to your brand.

If you are going to use in-house resource to manage social media profiles for your business, be sure to train them for doing the job effectively. You also have the choice of outsourcing the effort.

In addition to scheduled SMO activities for content syndication, you may also consider ad-hoc tasks to surprise the fan base and create excitement about buying your products and services.

Take advantage of Social media paid campaigns such as Face Book Ads to build brand awareness and build your network.

Be sure to measure the results of all the activities

Benefits

By executing both SEO, SMO & Social Media Marketing effectively, you are leveraging the power of the internet to:

The Future of Digital Media - No More Physical Copies

The advent of the compact disc (CD), and later the digital versatile disc (DVD) were, at the times of their respective creation, were thought to be the end all and be all of media storage and playback. There have been other types of digital media designed for the mass market such as digital audio tapes (DAT's), mini disc's (MD's) to name but a couple of mediums that were at the time, touted as the next big thing to revolutionize how we stored, listened to and watched our digital media. And now, with the mainstream fully embracing Blu-Ray technology, digital optical media seems to have peaked in terms of capability and usefulness.

If you were to discover that optical media, regardless of whether we're talking about cd's, dvd's or the impossibly awesome blu-ray, had a limited lifespan and in fact may not be the ultimate storage or playback method...well, you'd likely be a bit surprised, shocked, maybe even a bit angry depending on how much money and time you've invested in your media library. Guess what?

Digital media and optical storage methods are, in fact, not built to last forever, despite what you may think based on what you've read or have been told by the salesman who sold you your blu-ray player. Great. All those cases of cd's and dvd's and blu-rays have a finite lifespan attached to them - now what? Wait until the next disc based storage format comes along? Sell off your collections based in anticipation of the next even smaller storage format? Believe it or not, the future is already here and slowly gaining traction in the form of all digital content that you stream from a central location throughout your home.

With the rising popularity of services like Netflix and iTunes, consumers are quickly becoming used to the notion of not actually owning physical copies of their media. It may take some time to wrap your head around the idea of going all digital, after all, having bookcases or closets or racks and racks full of music and movies is impressive to look at and, until recently, the commonplace and accepted method of storage and display.

Being able to back-up and copy all of your optical media to one central location, such as a plug in hard drive attached to your main computer, would instantly eliminate the need for physical copies. The space savings alone are enough of an incentive for many consumers to consider this option. Add in the ability to stream wirelessly to any location in your home or to your portable devices, and the idea of owning physical copies of your music and movies seems downright old fashioned.

If you don't have wireless in your home, there is always an alternative option. By utilizing a media hub or similar device, you can simply unplug your hard drive and connect it to whatever TV screen you choose to use. This method also makes your entire library portable - you could easily take your entire library of music and movies with you wherever you go. Try taking one thousand DVD's anywhere and you'll see the benefit of an all-digital library pretty quickly!

Many of the music or film purists who have large collections will always cite the inability to have cover art as one of the reasons to retain physical copies of films and music. There is some merit to this as cover art is an established and attractive part of the music or film contained within. But many of the media players and all digital storage methods offer the user the ability to attach album covers and movie poster art to their corresponding digital files (*"cover flow" in iTunes is a great example of this), thus allowing you to retain the familiar while utilizing the new methodology.

While blu-ray media is currently in fashion and is considered the end all be all of digital media, the evolution to non-physical copies is happening as we speak. Hard drives are getting bigger and capable of more storage. Streaming media throughout the home is simple enough for the average user to install and calibrate. You may not be quite ready to put your existing media up for sale - that's ok for the time being. You've had a lifelong relationship with your albums and movies. But as your choices increase and more and more films and albums are added to your library, combined with the finite lifespan of optical disc based storage, sooner or later you'll begin to consider going all digital. Whether you make the choice sooner or later, the ease of use, not to mention all of the benefits already discussed here (*think of the space you'll save around the house!), will have you thinking about your library in a whole new way. Embrace the future of digital media. The Future of Digital Media - No More Physical Copies

Digital Skills Needed to Work in the Media Industry

As the traditional media industry begins to espouse the digital movement, your digital skills and knowledge of the digital world will ensure that you continue to be among the most employable of sales staff. Honing your digital skills will make you a preferred candidate, considered more qualified than those individuals who limit themselves to only traditional media transmission or printing techniques.

Digital media sales positions are becoming more and more prevalent in the media industry. Even those working for traditional media sources find themselves selling a mixture of products that include both print and online advertising, standard radio ads and satellite radio spots, or video for television and for internet distribution. By educating yourself about the methods used in digital media you become a more effective sales executive, able to speak knowledgably to clients about the services and products offered by your company.

If you work directly for a media provider then you will certainly need to have a range of digital skills. Some digital media sales jobs require incumbents to perform sales activities as well as basic design or coding activities. For example, a sales position with a web design company may sell products as well as complete design projects.

Some digital media companies have less broad job descriptions, with digital media sales staff selling products but then handing off design or distribution duties to other individuals within the company. Even within these positions you will need to have at least a working understanding of the digital techniques and tools employed in the creation of client media projects. This allows you to speak to clients in a convincing and informative manner, making a strong argument for the reason they should purchase products or services from your company.

If you are a digital media sales technician then you will need to not only sell products or services but complete project work as well. These kinds of digital sales jobs are very common in the media industry today, with many small and medium sized media companies merging customer service, sales and design job duties under a single position.

Larger companies often require those working in digital media sales jobs to go through a training program during which they will learn about the kinds of products offered and the technical skills required to complete customer projects. Such a training program can make you a more authoritative voice for the company and will make you more impressive to clients, ultimately improving your performance as a sales representative.

If you run your own digital media company then the odds are that you will need to wear a number of hats. This means you'll be selling as well as creating client media projects. Self-employment or consulting work is rewarding but will require a strong understanding of digital media in order to ensure success.

If you want to find the latest media jobs then try searching for specific things online such as Digital Media Sales or Editorial Jobs.

Digital Media Players - Interesting Predictions For 2011

Technology for digital media players changed dramatically in 2010. For the first time ever, a person could store all their movies, music, and photos in one place and stream them directly to their living room television. So exactly what can we expect for 2011? I think 2011 will be a furiously fast year for digital media sreamers and we will see jumps in technology and a drop in price also.

Every Major Television Manufacturer Will Include Digital Media Player Technology As An Included Feature - This device was the first to connect the home computer to the home theater. I know that Apple has the Apple TV and there are a few other devices out there that kind of got close to the mark, but full media streamers were the missing link. Now, with storage becoming more affordable, a person could make a backup copy of every DVD in their personal collection. The digital player allowed for streaming of video and audio, including high-definition, straight to your living room television. Coming in 2011 will be the full on emergence of Wifi enabled televisions that can connect to the internet and your home network. Sony televisions are even including things like widgets that make things a lot easier. In 2011 you will have the ability to connect and stream your media to your television without the need for the player. If you aren't planning on upgrading your television, don't worry, you can still get a super high-tech player with all the bells and whistles.
Streaming Players Will Increase Portability And Storage Capacity Will Be Included - Because the actual size of the technology like circuit boards and memory, I believe the size of the media players will also shrink. The smaller size will mean that it will be easier to travel with your player. For those that have video connections and screens in their car, this could mean that you can take your entire DVD collection with you without even needing to bring a single DVD. Now, most players have the option for the user to install their own 2.5" SATA hard drive so that they can store the media directly on the device. Let's say you don't have a wireless network at home, storing your digital music, movies, and photos on the device means that all you have to do is take the player to your television and connect directly with A/V cables. In 2011 I believe we will see players come standard with built-in hard drives or solid state drives.

These are just predictions, but I look forward to seeing if these happen. These are not guarantees by any means. If you are considering whether to buy a digital media player now or maybe considering getting a television with the capability built in, you might want to hold off a little longer to see what happens.

Working in Digital Media Sales

A career in the digital media field need not be sales oriented. There are a wide variety of design and programming positions also available within the industry. Many roles within a digital media agency are perfectly suited for those with entry level design or programming skills, while others will require expert level knowledge of digital graphics and code writing.

Many media sales positions actually combine sales expertise with design or coding. There are a wide variety of jobs in digital agencies that actually require the individual to have a strong understanding of the sales and marketing process in addition to being able to perform the design, coding and installation of various digital media campaign components.

Whether you're interested in working only in the sales arena or wish to spread your work experience around through a couple of other fields as well, digital media agencies may be an excellent place to being your career in the media industry. Though you may start out in a lower paying, entry level position, once you've obtained a sufficient level of experience, you will be able to garner larger salaries and more prestigious positions.

Media sales positions sell products and services that are intended to increase the presence of a company online. Boosting the recognition of the company's services or products is the intention of digital media advertising. This kind of advertising can be in the form of video, photographs, articles, blog posts, email campaigns, social media advertising and websites.

If you get a position in a media agency then you may well be expected to perform multiple duties. The nature of these digital media sales positions is often fairly distinct from the traditional sales job. While traditional sales executives may perform primarily sales and account management duties, digital sales staff may be involved in composing text, writing code, designing graphics, taking photographs or filming advertising videos.

If you work on your own within digital media then you will most certainly be wearing a number of hats within your work. You will be performing the sales role as well as account management and any number of other functions as well. There are many who decide to work as independent contractors within digital media sales but it can be a very difficult path to take.

Working within a media agency can make your life easier in a number of ways. Not only will you have fewer job duties to contend with, but you will also have fewer worries when it comes to compensation, taxation and benefit related issues as well.

If you are officially employed by a media company then you will not need to worry about finding your own health, dental, life insurance or retirement plans. Taxes will be withheld for you on your pay, alleviating concerns about self-employment tax and estimated tax payments.

Even finding clients will be easier if you work for someone else. Although as a digital media sales person you are ultimately working to find new clients, you will have some leads generated by the agency and will have the full power of the digital media company behind you to convince clients of the validity of purchasing advertising space or time with your organization.

Online Digital Media Production Higher Education Options

The high demand for digital media has created a wave of continual technological upgrading and production. Students that want to enter careers in this area have several options. Higher education in digital media production can be pursued through online colleges and universities that dedicate specific programs to this area of study.

Students will learn a wide range of skills like understanding how to write scripts and generate graphics. Education can be completed online at the associate's, bachelor's, and master's degree level of education. Career goals and the amount of time students can dedicate to education will help them make a decision as to which educational route would be best for them. Students can also choose concentrations inside a program that may include commercials, music videos, and sporting events. All programs present students with understanding in production planning, sound editing, directing, and more. Depending on the level of education training may be examined from an introductory or advanced standpoint.

An associate's degree program teaches students about the design of media tools. Students will explore various areas of the profession to gain a foundation that will prepare them for careers or further education. Presentation creation, video production, and web page conception are some specific areas that are included within a two-year associate's degree program. Common online courses could include:

Intro to Media
Digital Photography

These courses and more develop the needed knowledge in basic audio and video media production. Education prepares students to work in various industries. Students can put their training to use in graphic design firms, advertising agencies, and more.

Many students begin their education with a bachelor's degree program. Interactive software is a large component inside the profession and students will learn how to use various programs. Education trains students to understand film production, design, scriptwriting, and more using a variety of software applications. Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut Pro are some computer programs used in the production process of digital media. Online courses that may be integrated into a program could include:

Illustration
Computer Animation

The understanding of design principles can be applied to several careers. Students that complete a program have a thorough understanding of the field to become digital media editors, web media developers, and virtual animators.

Education at the master's degree level takes a different approach. The first year of education trains students to produce digital media while navigating the different challenges that can occur when working with computer technology. The second year is highly focused on giving students the knowledge to find solutions for digital media production problems regarding the latest technology and software. Students learn to become proficient with handling problem areas and developing new methods to fix them. Common courses may include:

Storytelling
Theories of Interactive Media
Digital Communication

Students can step into careers as animators, creative directors, digital media consultants, and more upon completion of a program.

Accredited online education allows students to master digital media production at any time and from anywhere. Full accreditation is proof that a quality education will be received. Agencies like the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges ( http://www.accsc.org/ ) can fully accredited programs that meet certain criteria. Internet and the Evolution of Digital Media

Just think of the time when we were living with primitive technology where the idea of a television could have been termed a dream of daydreaming individuals. Likewise, take example of any gift of the modern science and technology; most of them were not even thinkable in the past. Online media is not different from such advanced gifts of science and technology.

Digital media is simply referred to any type of electronic media such as cellular phones, digital video, compact discs, internet, e-book, television, minidisc, computer, e-Commerce, video games, and other interactive media. The media that can be stored in electronic way is the digital media. There is no doubt that internet is the most important mean of digital media, which offers great flexibility to store digital content, such as pictures, rich text, audio and video material, as well as graphics. We can see how the digital media on the internet is developing day by day.

The simple form of digital media is text. In its primitive stage, internet was accepting text as digital information storage point with many limitations. As internet technology advanced, we got good word processing and text editing options. Data storage started to shift from papers and files to computer's paperless storage media which made information available just a mouse-click away. When the information is stored on computers, sharing and further storing on the internet became very easy and accessible to the interested ones. At this stage, the digital media started to take a considerable shape.

As the next step towards advancement, more options were introduced on the internet that made it possible to add photos and images to the text message, or pictures replaced text in some cases. This made the online media and also the development of online news more impressive on the internet and started helping people in many directions - personal, official, and commercial.

Audio options started to play their active part in the middle of 1990 with the easily usable mp3 files. Soon after this facility, music and vocal messages started to play a very important role as effective online news options.

Online news on the internet got a big boost when video was introduced. This made the things more impressive and presentable. Like pictures, video sharing also became very popular.

With rich text, graphics with high quality pictures and images, online media on the internet has reached to a considerable height. It is not all, as the future will see more development in this sector.

It is worth noting how the great evolution of online news on internet is helping the people around the globe; how easier marketing has become; how it is helping businesses to grow globally; and so on, the benefits are many. There is no doubt that now many businesses solely depend on the proper usage of news media on the internet. We just need to harness the hidden powers of internet and avail this highly beneficial digital media.

Consumer PR Marketing in the Age of Digital Media

Economy is currently rising from the depression and businesses are making more efforts on public relations campaigns. During the depression many firms surely thought that cutting down on media relations was the right way to save money when business went downhill. As many industry specials say cutting the public relations budget is not the right way to cut down expenses during bad times. During depression media budgets should be on the high priority list how to increase sales and brand awareness.

Major companies are not cutting down media budgets during depression and that is one reason they stay on the top off the consumer minds. Ones the business starts to raise again those brands are on the consumer minds when he starts to spend again on the markets.

Digital consumer public relations are easily measured and tracked so that they can be very cost effective when media budgets are more carefully considered in companies. Social media is one good place to be seen as brand awareness and gain more visibility to campaigns easily. However no one should start a social media campaign just the reason that every competitor is on the social media platforms. Companies should take those campaigns as seriously as any other media campaign when they rush into the social media. As well as any other digital marketing social media ROI and cost can be effectively measured and tracked when measurable goals have been set to the campaigns.

When thinking traditional papers and digital media consumer pr is going to shift more to the digital media but newspapers and magazines should still be in the budgets. Magazines still get many readers and different kind of possible customers than digital media such as internet portals and social media. As more businesses rush to digital media with their consumer pr campaigns the media is going to be more crowded and diversified. People will get add blindness and email marketing letters are going to have less effect when they increase overall.

Now that depression and the biggest economy crises are becoming the thing in the past consumer pr companies are seeing more leads and acquires from companies that want to make more visibility in the consumer brands and effect how people will make their shopping decisions when they are spending money on themselves or family. Successful consumer PR can be done effectively both in online and offline media and when combined both methods effectively at the same time.

If your company is thinking starting a consumer pr campaign you should consider respectable public relations company such as PR agency Res Publica in Sydney Australia. They have good understanding of media relations and event management in local business area.

New Media Primer, A World of Digital Gypsies

Steven Spielberg's film Minority Report may take place in 2054, but the futuristic world he constructed is built from modern experience. A think-tank of experts from fields as diverse as Advertising, Architecture, and the Military gathered during the film's pre-production to construct a plausible future. The end result is a world of communicative technologies, where interaction is personal and informative. Where mass communication can speak with a personal message. Interpersonal and Mass Communication evolve in the digital world to create a third medium - The New Medium.

Can you recall the first time digital communication startled you with a personal suggestion? Your first Amazon.com recommendation, or a television show TIVO recorded for you, just because it thought you might enjoy it?

No doubt you sat for a moment pondering whether mass media had made you so mainstream that broadcasters could paint your personality with one broad stroke of their brush. More importantly, I can safely bet you wondered as well, just how your own company could learn to turn mass communication into a personal experience, reaching a broad audience with refined messages.

Someone was manufacturing crystal balls, and like every great entrepreneur and businessman you immediately wanted a coveted peak at the answer floating inside amid swirls of smoke, pixie dust, and strings of binary code.

The Medium has become A Medium?

The world of the 21st Century is not full of "squares." Quite the contrary, we live in a vibrant community of unique individuals. Reaching out and connecting with a broad audience today requires the sophisticated delivery of your message in countless variations. The "crystal ball" is not magic; it is the efforts of a talented and dedicated pool of marketing managers at defining the breadth of their client base and coming to an understanding of how to adapt their message and pitch to each group. Using a computer database, TIVO and Amazon.com are successfully able to deliver a custom pitch to their clients. The computer is no longer just a sales tool; it's a salesman!

The classification of Communication Mediums is important step in selecting the medium appropriate to your project. Interpersonal Media is a format for person-to-person communication. This type of communication is specific and personal, as it is direct correspondence between a known sender and receiver. Examples include letters, e-mail, the telephone, and instant messaging. Mass Media is a format for person-to-public communication. Mass Media aims to send a message to a vast audience, reaching larges numbers with a single communicative stroke. Public oration, books, television, film, radio and Youtube are all prime examples of Mass Media.

In comparison, New Media builds upon the strength of these two Mediums by delivering personalized person-to-public communication. Through a defined client base, individualized marketing materials, and a refined method for sorting users, New Media can deliver a higher impact message to consumers while still benefiting from the reduced overhead of Mass Media. As you might have already surmised, the defining difference between the mediums is necessarily technological: both Interpersonal and Mass Media have existed since man's first cognitive exchange. New Media, however, is born of the digital age, a byproduct of the digital database.

New Media and Moving Images

As a scholar and contributor to the world of film and computer science, I am thrilled by the collision of the two worlds. Most recently the world of film has been revolutionized by non-linear, digital editing systems. On the flipside, the Internet has reached a highly publicized benchmark, dubbed "Web 2.0," through the introduction of virtual broadcast spaces, such as Youtube, which rely on user-generated content.

This history runs back further than most would guess, in fact, film and computers have been connected since the day the first digital computer ran a successful calculation! Like every great computer entrepreneur, German engineer Konrad Zuse built the world's first digital computer in his parent's living room in 1936. This hulking contraption of tubes drove calculations and stored the results. Like the computers which would dominate the next few decade, input and output came in the form of punched holes representing binary digits. However, unlike the future machines, Zuse's ran on a curious media: discarded 35mm film prints!

The creation of New Media brings Zuse's story full-circle as we now see the potential for film and video content to rely upon digital computers in order to communicate. Of course we see this reliance in many of the new digital media formats such as online media players, ipods, DVDs, etc; however, these examples of new Mass Communications do not take full advantage of the digital computer's ability to analyze, interpret, and deliver specialized content. Through the incorporation of database structures in a communication delivery network, Mass Communication content can be created and appropriately distributed. It shouldn't be a stretch of the imagination by this point to envision your current marketing campaign reaching a new level of personalization through a multimedia CD-ROM or web application.

With New Media you are encouraged to leave the broad paint brush behind, and begin to reach out to more refined divisions in your client base, touching each on a much richer level than you would at the traditional broad level. What's even greater is the same act that lets you analyze your client will let you establish a communication with them...this is the personal side. With digital video formats hitting new performance peaks, personalized, media rich communication is primed to be the next leap.

Impact of Digital News Media on Traditional Advertising Methods

If we go deeper into this matter and look around us, there will not be any difference of opinion and all would agree that digital media has the upper hand.

Many companies are giving up traditional marketing and advertising methods and turning towards digital media to promote their products and services.
Many big names had to cut their budgets to save the companies from heavy losses. However, they very wisely turned to digital media for advertising. This is a clear sign of businesses losing confidence in the traditional advertising methods.

Results in traditional media are considered less measurable than the direct response media like the digital media. It is like a war between the TV, Radio and Print media, and the internet and other digital media of advertising. When there is no control over the results of some advertising, and when an alternative more controllable media is available, who would prefer to continue with the traditional media! Yes, it is true; many big names have displayed huge profit even in this hard time of recession. All such names are in favor of digital news media for most of their marketing and advertising needs.

While we find digital media the best option, we cannot deny the fact that in some aspects, the traditional media is found useful. It is said that marketing of your brand suits more to traditional media. Well, it may be true but this rule cannot be generalized and would depend mostly on the product and prevailing conditions. Some very positively argue that for the sake of effective advertising campaign and for the best results, both types of advertising and marketing media must be used.

If we say that online media trends has badly affected the traditional advertising methods, we should not forget the fact that the customers' trend is also responsible for that. Customers have become more responsive to digital media now. They spend hours on the internet, not on the radio or other traditional means. All such media is becoming 'electronic.' With fast and wider access to information, customers prefer digital news media for purchasing or while deciding to avail some service. Such market trend and the ease of sharing information, as well as economic feasibility, are working very positively in favor of digital media. Now, companies cannot neglect the fast growing and fierce competition and have to adopt means that not only help them survive, but also to develop their business.

There is an unnoticed disadvantage of digital news media marketing or advertising. Since the ease of access to information on different identical products or services makes it much easy for the potential customers to compare the products, you have to offer the best. If not, the customer has all the information about other good offers available, with even unbiased reviews; he would definitely go for the better one.

Well, while digital news media has very negatively influenced the traditional advertising methods, it is certainly beneficial for the customers.

Digital Media Player Coming to Your Living Room - Future Home Entertainment Now

Just a few years ago, home entertainment had an entirely different meaning than it does now. In fact, the first home entertainment system was the family radio, where you would sit around as a family and listen to shows that were broadcast. The choices were somewhat limited. Now we are entering an age where our entire lives will be digital, including our home and how we entertain ourselves while in our homes. Now, houses come built with a theater room that can be completely set up with video and sound to mimic that of an actual theater, thus providing a monumental home entertainment experience.

This article will examine just how far the idea of home entertainment has come and now, how the idea of media delivery is transitioning from an actual piece of media, like a compact disc, DVD, and even the new Bluray, into a completely different animal, streaming media.

Traditional Home Entertainment Ideas

Just to rewind a little in order to appreciate the newest and hottest technology that is out, I'd like to just point out some of the older forms of home entertainment. I'm going to skip from the early radio and TV eras into the origins of actually setting up an entertainment hub in the home. Partly this is because of the introduction of the television in the home. Before the television, families were forced to basically invent ways to entertain themselves. If we could go back in time, to the 50's lets say, and show a family a modern day home with a fully decked out theater room, can you imagine their reaction! We've evolved from books and board games, which I still enjoy, to radio, to TV, to fully stocked theaters in our houses.

Origins Of The Home Theater

The original home theaters usually consisted of an oversized cathode ray tube television set, a couch, maybe a recliner, and there weren't too many options for sound other than the speakers on the television set. The main source of media would have been delivered from over-the-air signals, then from cable (if you could afford it), and also from your home VHS or BETA player. This set-up probably describes most dens or home living rooms from the middle 80's through the middle 90's. Several companies saw the potential of the living room as a major source for revenue. Sony, KLH, JVC, AIWA, and Yamaha electronics companies were some of the pioneers in the home theater market that started to produce products specifically marketed for creating your own home theater in your house. The latest two editions to the home entertainment room are the DVD player, which replaced the VHS, and now the Sony Bluray players. There was a brief war between Sony and Toshiba for High Definition format superiority, but Sony's Bluray Player won that war.

Now a home theater room can come fully equipped with oversized plasma televisions, LED televisions, and gigantic movie screens with accompanying 1080p video projectors suspended from the ceiling. That old sofa has been replaced with specialized seating that included media room recliners and sectional sofa recliner combination furniture, all to enhance the viewing experience. Not to leave out the sound, you can now have your audio delivered in up to 7.1 channels of crystal clear sound. You can hear the bullets whizzing by your head, don't forget to duck! Now the home theater is headed for an all new destination, an all new digital destination and you can get there wirelessly.

Your Living Room And Streaming Media Players

The whole idea of having a DVD tower in the living room and picking a movie, and plugging it into a DVD player of some sort is rapidly dying. The digital media player is taking over what was once the homes of the DVD and now the Bluray players on the shelf under the television. The first real media streamer came from Netflix, when they offered a set top box that allowed the user to have access to thousands of movies, streamed over the internet directly to your TV, and you could view the movies in high definition. Then Microsoft started to offer different content downloads through the Xbox. Sony also eased into this market through the PlayStation 3, by making some games and movies downloadable, as well as add on content.

The idea has been there for the past few years, but only until this year have we seen a major boom in media HD Media players, digital media adapters, and digital media receivers. It really has been just a matter of time. People have been storing their own home movies and music on their computers for years, and as the home theater room evolved, so did the consumers' need to be able to access their media content not only in the living room or entertaining room, but now that need has grown to be able to access content in every room of the house. The demand has become even greater for the HD media player with the ability to back up personal DVD collections on your own PC. Now whole movie collections are stored on terabyte drives and can be accessed with these digital media players. As an example, The Patriot Box Office HD, with the wireless adapter, can connect wirelessly to your home network router and give you access to your media content. It outputs video at 1080p TrueHD and also outputs Dolby Digital sound. These digital media streamers not only play content from your network, but also support services such as YouTube, Google Video, Yeoh, and Hulu.

Upcoming Thoughts

In the next few years, it is my theory that over 80% of the content that we view in our home entertainment rooms and living rooms will be streamed over the internet directly to us. If television manufacturers want to keep pace, I think that eventually the televisions will come with built in media streamers and the ability to communicate wirelessly with home networks. As the ability to transfer information wirelessly gets faster and faster, I think we will see jumps in entertainment technology. The industries of Cable and Broadcast media will take the biggest hits in the next few years also, just like the music industry in the early 2000's. This time I think we could see some companies just go under or change. They will have to change the way they deliver media to their customers, because if the service gets too far behind the demand, consumers will always find a way to get what they want.

The 'What & Why' of Digital Media As a Career Option

This time of the year, most of you must be grappling with the dilemma called "What Next?" No wonder, with the host of career options thrown open in front of you, combined by the pressures from peer and family, it has made you more confused and indecisive.

I am here to talk to you about a career option that rightly fits into the scenario and needless to mention, it shall also be liked by your interest buds. The reason is simple; it involves two things that have become part and parcel of your life: i.e. Internet and Mobile.

Ever wondered, who posts the brand messages on the Facebook or the Twitter every day. Ever wondered who forms and manages Websites like Sunsilk Gang of Girls or Lipton Challenge - World's Largest Puzzle. Ever felt curious to know who puts the sponsored links whenever you search for something on Google.

They are all Digital marketing / media professionals who work together to bring the brand in contact with the digital clan (i.e. you) in various forms.

OK so now you must be wondering "Why Digital Media, what is it all about etc.?" So let us answer your questions one on one:

The 'What & Why' of Digital Media as a Career Option:

What is Digital Media all about?

Digital Media refers to electronic media. For us we need to keep 2 things in mind: Internet & Mobile.

Digital Marketing is the business of promoting products or services using digital distribution channels to reach consumers in a timely, relevant, personal and cost-effective manner.

So why should you choose it as a career option?

Even when the world is slowing down, Digital Media is running at a much faster pace each day. In fact, with more and more organizations opting for digital media campaigns, the media is growing by leaps and bounds. With this, is growing the number of agencies that are offering 360U services under digital domain. And this in turn is opening up multiple job avenues.

However, with each day it is becoming more complex and hence a thorough understanding of what, why, when, where and how of it shall empower the digital media professionals to come up with innovative ideas, thereby, breaking through the clutter.

Digital media is an apt career option for the young and enthusiastic tech savvy generation (you again). It is this young generation that accesses the digital media the most, and spends majority of its time understanding the digital parlance, finding out newer and fresher ways to communicate and connect.

Hence, as this media is still evolving, it provides immense opportunities to you to prove your mettle. All your entrepreneurial skills can be tried, tested and nurtured here. However, the media being complex, a course in digital marketing / media as a specialized domain shall help aspirants to hone the requisite skills to deliver path-breaking solutions.

So, what exactly does a digital media professional do?

Various Things.

To begin with a digital media professional has wide array of functions to choose from depending upon his / her area of interest.

Strategy:

Strategy is the knowledge warehouse of the organization. It encompasses thorough research pertaining to the brand, competitors, category & consumers, which thereafter is used to generate insights that lead to formulating campaigns that not just last long but last forever. So if you are inquisitive, observant and enjoy analyzing, then this is the right option for you.

Client Servicing & Business Development:

Love talking to people, meeting them, and networking? Then, this is the department to be in. You need to be a good listener and a good speaker. Not to forget, you need to know how to balance between being calm or aggressive. Getting work done aptly summarizes the role of a professional in this department.

Technology:

Seek logic & explanation into everything? Enjoy creating something on your own? The tech team has people just like you.

Creating websites, widgets, applications and other such stuff is what these guys primarily do. You need to be enjoying working on programming languages (Asp.Net, PHP, and JAVA, to name a few) to be here.

Creative:

If things like imagination, designs, colors, beautiful statements rule your world then you got to join the bunch of creative guys. Art to think through forms, situations or categories is what you need to develop.

Thinking, thinking different and creating something unique is an obvious expectation out of a creative fellow.

Search / Social Media Marketing:

Social networks, search, videos, blogs take major time of your day? So much so that your family and friends feel the need to have a social network profile to get in touch with you?

Two things would summarize what people do here:

*Enjoy conversations, reading them, initiating them, managing them and placing brands into the conversational game.

*Understand why and what does one search for and how to link a brand to the relevant search.

Media Planning:

Numeromaniac. Is that you?

Numbers define the media planning world. Love for numbers is a must; else, you may not survive.

Following trends, consumers, and new developments is the second major function of a media planner. Follow anything and everything; know who is doing what and why.

Thanks & Regards
Sandy

Optical Media - The Best Solution For Storing and Distributing Digital Content

Summary

For most businesses, the ability to collect, store and distribute content is not a benefit, but a requirement. In today's information-driven society, it is important for every professional to have the capability to gather information (whether it is records, data, multimedia, etc.) in one central, secure form-one that will not only stand the test of time, but that can be quickly and easily accessed when you need it, wherever you are.

Before the development of optical media, magnetic tape, LP records and other types of vinyl records were the primary resources for the storage and distribution of content and media. In their time, these were logical and useful options. However, optical media, such as CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, gave the world an unparalleled solution for the storage and distribution of music, video and data - a solution that keeps growing and expanding. From physicians and university professors to retail clerks and independent business owners, people from all walks of life have discovered the benefits of using optical media to store and distribute their professional information in a dynamic and secure manner.

Even as more industries realize the value of optical media, this solution continues to offer bigger, better and more robust benefits. This white paper highlights the reasons why optical media is the number one choice for the storage and distribution of digital content.

Introduction

Optical media is the leading storage and distribution solution. It combines all the benefits professionals look for in one convenient package. Optical media is:

Inexpensive
Archival
Durable
Searchable
Reliable
Secure
Versatile
Printable

More space for your buck.

CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are extremely cost effective. A full-color permanently printed disc costs $.70 for a CD, $.80 for a DVD and $5.00 for a Blu-ray disc. Affordability is especially helpful if you are sending stored information to multiple parties. When it comes to storage space, size does matter. Optical disc capacities vary from 700 MB to 25 GB. With that kind of range, you have the added advantage of selecting the exact storage size that fits your needs. Now you can store your data efficiently and dole it out cost effectively-and still have room left over to grow. In terms of value, nothing beats an optical disc.

Live long and prosper.

Optical media offers an unparallelled archiving solution, allowing you to minimize bulky libraries and files of information into a less complicated, handheld solution. Not only is optical media both small and portable, but it outlasts any conventional form of record keeping. ISO tests confirm that a properly maintained CD will last more than 100 years. DVDs and Blu-ray discs can survive for more than 50 years. When you use optical media, you not only have a small, efficient method of gathering and transporting your data, but you can be assured that your media will last through the generations.

A match for Mother Nature.

Of all portable media storage solutions, optical discs are the toughest in the industry. Dust and fingerprints generally do not disturb the functionality and readability of a disc and, in general, optical media can withstand a reasonable amount of water, heat, humidity and even harsh chemicals. One user of optical media states: "Last summer I had some music CDs and a bottle of weed killer in my car. One afternoon, my trunk got pretty hot and the weed killer leaked all over my stack of CDs. When I got home, I washed them off with some warm soapy water, carefully rinsed them and stacked them in the dish rack to dry. The next day, they were ready to use. Had this happened to an iPod or USB drive, I would have lost my entire music library."

Of course, proper storage, general care and common sense are fundamental to the lifespan of discs, and surface scratches can pose the threat of permanent damage. However, when appropriately stored and cared for, optical discs are the sturdiest and most resilient digital media storage solution available today.

Seek and you will find.

Do you remember trying to fast forward to your favorite song on a cassette tape? Now, think about how fast and easy it is to search for music on a CD with a touch of a button. Long gone are the days of having to listen to an entire tape from beginning to end or hunting and pecking to find the one thing that you are looking for. Optical access media provides direct access, rather than linear access to data so you do not have to spend valuable time trying to find the track, document or video that you require. Today's world is fast-paced, and time is critical to the success of your business. When you store your data, music and video on a disc, you can always find what you need, when you want it.

Have optical media, will travel.

Worldwide, a 120mm optical disc is the most universal method of storage and transportation of information. Because disc technology is the industry standard, you can take a CD, DVD or Blu-ray disc anywhere in the world and find a place to read it. In addition, optical media is the only technology that scales from laptops to enterprise solutions-discs can easily travel from the smallest laptop to the largest server room. When you walk in to a meeting, conference or office with an optical disc you'll be able to use it. Wherever you are, so is your media. As one technical trainer says, "I have done training sessions all over the world and the one thing I never worry about is getting my content to appear or play - it's always on a CD or DVD."

Safe and sound.

Technology is available to password protect optical media, further securing and protecting important and private records, data and media. Rimage embeds this technology into its systems to make password protection of disc content as easy as checking a box and typing in a robust password. Do you want to prevent unauthorized duplication of video content? A different check box enables video protection that does not interfere with playability. Both can be used on-demand-for one disc or hundreds of discs. Optical media proves a storage solution that is safe and secure-protecting your information from those who shouldn't have it so you can easily provide it to those who should.

What does optical media have that printed media doesn't?

Granted, we do not yet live in a paperless world. Paper is still prevalent at home, school and in the workplace, and it is still an effective means of amassing and communicating information. A printed product brochure can have great photos, diagrams, copy, color and, ultimately, a great impact. But it can't have moving demos, flash videos or recorded end-user testimonials. With optical media, you can provide everything printed media can and much more. You can, for example, record a complete product catalog, embed an interactive system selector and have music play while the user reads the disc. And that's just the beginning. With advantages like these, you can reach your established customer or fan base and go the extra mile.

A label is worth a thousand words.

Optical media has it all. Effective and affordable storage capabilities? Check. Ease of distribution? Check. Longevity, protection and versatility? Check, check and check. Add printing ability to this combination and you've got a world-class solution. A 120 mm optical disc is the only form of data storage and transportation that has enough real estate on the surface to tell a user what's on the disc before it is inserted into a computer. If a disc contains music, you can print a label that lists all the songs, times and artists right on the surface. If it's software, you can print the version, revision level, platform, language and even the fine print in your legal disclaimer-and still have plenty of room for your corporate logo. Furthermore, since the data on a disc lasts up to 100 years, it makes sense to have label printing that lasts just as long.

Rimage's Everest thermal retransfer printing lives up to these expectations. We use the same print technology used on credit cards, which is strong, durable and time-tested. Find out more about Everest printers and Rimage's optical media solutions at Rimage.com.

Many companies employ their own digital media specialists in positions that often combine technology and marketing to help establish the company's public reputation. Creating a positive online presence is one of the primary goals of these kinds of digital jobs.

Marketing and communication agencies also have digital media teams that focus on developing marketing campaigns for various platforms, including web based and mobile media. Digital media agencies are becoming increasingly common and the number of available positions in this area of digital media is only bound to grow as digital technology continues to advance.

Traditional media is also beginning to expand into the digital world. Television and radio stations, book and newspaper publishers, magazine companies, and other forms of traditional print media organizations continue to expand their offerings into the digital realm, opening up even more digital jobs on the market.
