Kreayshawn Carson Daly Foster The People Last Call

Last Call With Carson Daly, the late night NBC talk show focused on music, hits the airwaves again September 20!

Carson usually promotes smaller artists in indie settings, like Clare Burson at LA's Hotel Cafe for example, but this season he's featuring some bigger names.

Why?

Because he's helping the Greek Theatre celebrate their 80th anniversary by showcasing some of their summer performances!

So viewers can expect to see Foster the People (looove them), Kreayshawn, David Guetta, and The Game.

Oooh, we're excited to watch! Last Call airs 1:35am-2:05am on NBC!

Features of the Intel X58 Motherboard


Recently, there have been more hype of the Intel X58 Motherboards that have been released during the November of 2008, and now there is a lot more to write and explain. In this article, you will read about some of the basic information on this new motherboard chipset, and the new features that this motherboard chipset has that distinguishes it from the rest.

This motherboard chipset is made by Intel, a now common name in the computer hardware industry. The X58 motherboards are the successors of the X48 series(which have not been too popular in the previous months) and the codename is "Tylersburg". Yes, it is a weird codename, but a cool one nonetheless.

Now, onto the functions of the motherboard. There are three important things that have been added onto this motherboard. Here's the list:

1. The motherboard uses the new Socket 1366 for the new Intel Core i7 processors

2. Support for Intel's QuickPath Interconnect(QPI) system

3. Support for Triple-channel memory

Now, if a lot of this content does not make sense when you first see this list, do not worry, because there are many people out there who have no idea what any of these three things mean. So, the solution to this problem, is that all three features will be explained in detail and in the English language that can be understood by everyone. Everyone learns by reading informative articles, and this will be the beginning of a series of articles that will be written about each of the three features. By the end of the series, you will have the knowledge of each feature that will allow everyone to decide whether these features make the X58 motherboard worth the price tag right now.

AMD Motherboard Features


AMD has been producing motherboards for as long as it has been producing central processing units. Though somewhat obscure and focused largely on the computer needs of large businesses, AMD has emerged as the primary competitor to Intel. Both companies have been locked in a struggle for the most powerful processor on the market, and as such, both sides have produced truly phenomenal CPUs with technology far and above what was thought possible even a few years ago. AMD is generally seen as producing processors with more raw power, while Intel is known to produce processors which are less expensive or more suited to special applications.

In order to support their line of CPUs, AMD has been offering motherboards specifically designed to accommodate them. Whether produced by AMD themselves or under license by other companies, AMD motherboards are largely seen as more powerful and accommodating than those produced by Intel. While AMD still produces a large number of motherboards for the business market, AMD has looked to capitalize on the home computing and gaming market by offering both very simple, stripped-down motherboards with few features, and extremely large motherboards designed to accommodate large quantities of RAM and several graphics cards at a time. As such, AMD motherboards have become very popular among gamers, graphic designers, and other people who need very large amounts of processing power.

The highest level AMD motherboards can accommodate more RAM than current operating systems allow and can run several graphics cards and two CPUs in tandem. However, most of the AMD motherboards are much simpler and are designed to fit the budget of almost any computer builder. Since they are primarily sold to promote AMD CPUs, they are generally compatible only with AMD-brand CPUs. However, many third-party motherboards are produced so as to accommodate both AMD and Intel CPUs. The AMD-only motherboards are clearly identified as such on their packaging, and are often sold in shops as a package deal along with the CPU. In such cases, the motherboard is often sold at a deep discount or even a loss to encourage the sale of the CPU, which is what really makes money for AMD. As such, the package deals are often good when both the CPU and motherboard must be purchased and compatibility must be guaranteed.

AMD's motherboards are considered to be very reliable, however they are not cheap. AMD takes pride in the high quality construction of their first-party motherboards, and uses high quality parts. Most users will find that a third-party board works just as well and costs much less. Almost all AMD compatible motherboards on the market today offer the ability to hold at least four GB of RAM (the maximum amount recognizable by Windows XP) and have slots for graphics and sound cards, both in PCI and more advanced forms. While these motherboards usually have one or more parallel ATA ports installed, there has been a shift to serial ATA ports in recent years due to their improved performance and decreased cost. As such, it may be necessary for persons upgrading from an older model board to purchase PATA to SATA adapter cables.

Intel Motherboard Features


Intel motherboard designs come in four primary sizes, each with their own unique characteristics. Regardless of the wide differences, there are some general features which they all share to some degree or another: memory, expansion, storage, and integrated peripherals.

Size and socks are closely related in that the largest intel motherboard series on the market is designed specifically to host multiple Xeon-server class chips, while the tiniest ITX Intel motherboard series is only used for mobile CPU sockets or even Netbook/Nettop CPU sockets for Intel's ATOM family of budget CPUs. The middle two groups, ATX and Micro ATX, are both home to desktop CPU sockets, though there are a few server ATX motherboards, and at least one Micro ATX Intel motherboard featuring a socket designed for use with laptop CPUs. Obviously the larger the motherboard physically is, the more features it can integrate.

One of those features is memory sockets, which are becoming more and more important as 64-bit CPUs and 64-bit software continue to gain traction in the market. One of the main benefits of going 64-bit is the ability to address large amounts of system memory, but all that memory needs a place to plug into any Intel motherboard. This is where memory sockets come in, and larger Intel motherboards tend to have more of these than smaller ones because they tend to eat up relatively large amounts of physical space. Because most Intel motherboard designs support dual- or even triple-channel memory configurations, many memory sockets are found in pairs or in trios. The memory sockets are usually designed for very specific types of memory that operate within fairly limited tolerances when it comes to speed (MHz) and electrical requirements.

Memory and CPU sockets are not the only things that can be plugged into most Intel motherboards. All but the very smallest Intel motherboard designs feature slots designed to accommodate various add-in cards ranging from graphics adapters to high-end RAID array devices. These are generally referred to as 'slots' and come in AGP, ISA, PCI, PCI-X, PCIE, PCIE-G, and many other styles and types. Some types such as AGP are only useful for specific types of add-in modules, while other slots such as PCIE all general purpose and allow any Intel motherboard to be expanded and customized to perform any number of customized tasks.

Of course, many of those very tasks that once were exclusively handled by add-in boards are now part of the standard array of integrated features. Onboard sound, networking, USB controllers, SATA, and even advanced RAID controllers are all very common any almost every single Intel motherboard on the market. While some of these features such as RAID controllers come in many flavors, the general rule is that one gets what they pay for; a more expensive Intel motherboard will be more likely to have a more powerful integrated RAID controller. Some of these integrated features may work well for today, but having expansion slots helps to ensure that future upgradability and expansion without complete system replacement is possible if any portion of the integrated feature set is ever deemed insufficient.

Buying a Motherboard for Gaming: What Features You Need to Consider


The motherboard defines the computer's system. It also determines the computer's speed, capacity and other important functions necessary for a fully functional unit. In using the computer for gaming purposes, it is important to consider the functions present in a motherboard and determine if it can handle intensive gaming applications. Be guided with the following features that must be present in a preferred motherboard for gaming purposes:

High Memory Capacity

For a good gaming experience, at least 1 GB RAM is needed. You can get either a DDR SDRAM or a DDR RDRAM. If lower than 1 GB of RAM, the game's speed and graphic quality can be compromised so it is always critical to get at least 1 GB RAM capacity.

Adequate RAM Slots

Since gaming computers have high RAM requirements, a minimum of 4 RAM slots is required. The RAM slots should be compatible with the RAM used which should have at least 1100 MHz capacity. Without adequate RAM slots, it may not sustain high RAM requirements since RAM modules are connected equally and separately for a highly functional RAM module.

256 MB to 512 MB Graphic Card

Gaming applications rely heavily on graphics, so it is important to have a high video memory capacity around 256 MB up to 512 MB. Usually, a standard motherboard has 64 MB up to 128 MB of built-in video memory, so an additional graphics card is needed. Whenever an additional graphic card is installed, just make sure that it is compatible with the motherboard in use.

Compatible Processor

No matter how great the purchased CPU is, it will not perform well if it is not compatible with the motherboard. For this reason, choose only from the motherboard's advised CPUs to ensure compatibility. At the same time, make sure that the CPU is fast and powerful enough as these features are typically required in a good-performing gaming PC. But remember, to be careful as certain motherboards have maximum allowable processor speed. In this case, just check the quoted limit in the motherboard's specifications and check if the chosen CPU meets the requirement.

Adequate USB Ports and PCI Slots

The PCI slots are designed to accommodate additional cards to the motherboard such as Ethernet card, sound card and modem. For optimum gaming experience, additional cards may be connected to PCI slots in order to meet most gaming application demands. The USB ports must be critically considered as well for other additional capacity options.

Avoid On-Board Video and Sound

There are some motherboards made with built-in video and sound capabilities. But remember that on-board video is not good for 3D games, so a separate graphic card must be installed. On the other hand, on-board sound function is just fine as the sound quality is almost the same with the sound produced in a separate sound card.
