Hollywood just opened a brand new Chick-Fil-A on Sunset and Highland.
The fast-food chain, as yummy as some may find it, is tainted with discrimination.
Chick-fil-A and its nonprofit WinShape Foundation have donated money to organizations working against marriage equality, specifically Focus on the Family.
This particular group promotes banning same-sex couples from marrying, same-sex couples from adopting children, and other homophobic practices and beliefs.
So when a corporation that is blatantly anti-gay opens up in Hollywood, you know there's going to be a clash!
And that's why activists for marriage equality have organized a protest for the new Chick-Fil-A this Saturday, September 24 from 12:00pm-6:00pm.
The protest's event page reads:
Bring your own signs, banners, and flyers to educate the public of the virulently anti-gay policies and donations of this bigoted corporation.
They actively suppress gay rights and the rights of anyone who isn't a Right-wing Christian. A coalition of LGBT people, gay rights organizations, animal rights organizations, and other progressive, fair-minded organizations and people is forming to protest this store making MILLIONS in OUR community for their bigoted "cause."
Come one, come all - and STAND UP FOR JUSTICE, DIGNITY, and EQUALITY!!
It's good to know someone has organized this!
It isn't even an issue of religion here, either. They can stay closed on Sundays.
We understand they're a private company. But they're all over the public streets, and we just don't think it's okay to be anti-gay!!!
Supporting organizations such as Focus on the Family domino effects into such tragedies like the countless suicides and deaths caused by hate (Matthew Shepard, Jamey Rodemeyer, etc.).
These organizations are masquerading themselves as white-picket-fenced happy people who bake pies and love everyone. But in reality, they are enabling violence.
Like the event creator says:
Why? Because they FUND all the hate organizations that create the social campaigns and rhetoric that embolden bullying — Focus on the Family, the American Family Association, etc.
They all work AGAINST efforts to curb anti-gay school bullying campaigns by spending millions against it, claiming it "suppresses their religious free speech."
Well, folks, [the death of Jamey Rodemeyer] is the result of all their "religious free speech." Any small thing I can do to de-fund the hate groups, I'm doing. Raise your voice, save a life.
So, how many people are going to the protest???
