There are many people that have encountered an issue with their ASUS motherboard. The problem entails the user being greeted with a "CPU Fan Error" message as they turn their computer on and are prompted to hit the F1 button to continue. The motherboards by ASUS that have this problem are the 945GC, M2N-MX and a few others. The cause of this problem is due to the motherboards inability to detect the rpm of the processors fan.
If you happen to have this motherboard and are encountering this problem, there are several things that you can do to remedy this issue:
Wrong Fan Connection
The majority of motherboards developed today come with individual fan ports for the system, video card and CPU, if the user puts the CPU fan's connector into the wrong port, then the motherboard will have no way of detecting the correct fan for the appropriate device.
Speed of Fan Is Too Slow
If your motherboard is quite old or has picked up a lot of dust particles over the years, then there's a strong chance that this could be inhibiting the speed of your CPUs fan. This is typically the result of using your system for long periods of time. In order to fix this problem, you'll need to put some transformer oil on the fan of your CPU in order to clean it.
The Fan Is Not Spinning
This is usually because the motor or sensor inside your fan is broken, the only fix here is to go out and purchase a new one.
Incorrect BIOS settings
If your problem still persists after utilising all the above remedies, then you can try entering your BIOS, looking for the settings on Fan Speed, and then changing the setting to Disabled or Ignore.
